Radial Keratotomy - RK
Rothchild Eye Institute
Radial Keratotomy has been performed in the United States since around 1980. Millions of people around the world have undergone this procedure, with excellent results. This procedure involves the calculated placement of markings on the surface of the eye in order to reshape the cornea and alter the point at which light focuses. The surgeon uses a very fine diamond blade to make 4-8 incisions around the center of the cornea. As the cornea heals, it flattens out in the center. This has the same effect as corrective lenses, changing the angle in which light rays enter the eye. RK is presently suggested for those patients with mild amounts of myopia. Dr. Rothchild has been performing RK since 1987 and has helped thousands of patients reduce or eliminate their need for eyeglass or contact lens correction.
