Macular Degeneration
Rothchild Eye Institute
This is a condition affecting central vision due to the deterioration of the macula or central area of the retina. The macula is responsible for sharp distance vision and for seeing close objects clearly. Most people with this condition cannot regain normal sight. However, in some cases where there's blood leaking under the retina, laser surgery may be successful in retarding vision loss.
