Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma is a disease that damages the optic nerve, usually because of too much fluid pressure inside the eye. At least one in every 50 elderly Americans is affected with glaucoma. In its early stages, there is usually and central vision remains clear. In its later stages, glaucoma symptoms can cause loss of vision.

Early detection and treatment of glaucoma is imperative.During your visit, your eye pressure and the condition of the optic nerve will be measured. If signs of glaucoma exist, more tests will be conducted. Anyone over 35 should be checked for glaucoma every one to two years. African-Americans, people with diabetes and those with a family history of glaucoma should be examined more often.
