Automated Lamellar Keratoplasty - ALK*
|
|
| ALK is used to treat low to moderate levels of farsightedness. A
version of this procedure has been performed since 19A9. ALK became a mainstream
refractive surgery procedure in 1990 with the development of an instrument called the
automated microkeratome. With this instrument, which is designed like a carpenters
plane, the doctor creates a corneal flap, revealing the inner corneal tissue. Pressure
inside te3h eye causes the cornea to steepen. The flap is then folded back into position
without the removal of additional tissue. This procedure has been performed at the
Rothchild Eye Institute since 1992. |
